Best Way to Clean Carpets at Home

clean_carpetsApart from hiring professional carpet cleaners to deep clean your carpeting, there are other proper ways to maintain and clean your carpets from dust, dirt, residues, dust mites and other potentially harmful microorganisms at home by yourself too.

Efficient stain removal can also be achieved successfully when you treat a spill in a timely and proper manner. Nasty odours can be eliminated from your rugs and carpets if you use appropriate treatment and solutions.

Here are some ideas for the best ways to clean your carpets at home:

Hoover them thoroughly and regularly

In order to prevent the build-up of dust, dirt and other residues which can be harmful to your carpet and for your health, you need to hoover the carpets and rugs at least once a week. Make sure you pass through the soiled and high traffic areas several times so that you keep your carpet looking well and safe from permanent damage.

Baking soda removes bad odour

If your carpet is emitting an unpleasant smell, there is a very easy and yet highly efficient way to remove it and refresh your carpeting. Simply sprinkle baking soda generously on the entire carpet and let it sit overnight. When you hoover it in the morning, the odour should be absorbed by the baking soda and gone.

Act quickly whenever a spill occurs

Move quickly and yet without panicking in case you get something spilled on your carpet. Try to get out as much of the spilled liquid or solid spilled on the carpet, but without scrubbing or rubbing it. This can cause the spill to spread and get embedded deeper down. Instead, use paper towels, a clean cloth or a sponge to blot the spilled substance off. After you can no longer see any transfer of the spilled liquid on the cleaning cloth you can proceed to treat the soiled area with the appropriate stain removing solution or method.

Perform deep cleaning

If your carpet can handle being treated with water, you can perform deep cleaning with a carpet cleaning machine. Always follow the instructions of the manufacturer when using a special shampoo or another detergent. Also, never proceed to treat your carpet with any solution before testing in on a small and hidden area for possible negative effects first.

… or dry cleaning

If your carpet cannot be washed, use the convenient dry carpet cleaning method with a specialized dry carpet cleaning spray or powder. Again, test the cleaning solution first before applying it to the whole rug or carpet!
